1971, Mike H., tieing down the rotor after a long day's flight. 1971, Korean RTO from the Tiger Div., watching rockets explode, from gun run, during a combat assault. 1971, flying low level above railroad tracks. This is just up the road from the bridge the 129th folks would fly under for thrills...against standing company orders...because one ship hit the bridge and crashed, total loss. Notice c-ration can clipped to infeed side of M-60 machine gun. Not only did it help to feed ammo, in a pinch, you could eat it.

Monsoon season, flooded rice paddies.Location between Anson (lane) and An Khe pass. These abandoned temples were occasionally seen out in the middle of nowhere. Centurys old, these were said to have been built before the Vietnamese came to Vietnam . This particular one was later almost shot down by a ranger helicopter circling it while firing its miniguns. He had nothing better to do I suppose..Armies and war really trash countries unfortunately . 1972, having a bit of fun flying low level, up the river towards An Khe Pass,
1971, active runway at Anson (lane)

1971/72, AnKhe Pass. halfway up was this switchback. Lots of ambushes occured here to convoys. Flight.M-60 locked and loaded.ammo flapping in the wind. The tips of our skids were painted to tell other ships which platoon we were with (white in this case). Me in the back. Pilots love having their pictures taken with the machineguns..for the folks back home.

This is a ceramic bullet proof vest ,we usually sat on. Incoming rounds usually came up thru the floors. We called them chicken plates. On really bad combat assauts,we would aquire another(not saying where),and wear that one ,as we sat on our own. They would stop anything smaller than a 50 cal round but no one told the NVA that, as they shot at us anyway. This chicken plate belongs to and was brought back by Jim Westwang (smitty). Its pictured in a bar belonging to Mark Jackson. As many 129th members passed thru the bar, located in Ohio, we would sign the chicken plate. The Pop A Top bar was our unofficial home for the 129th. 1972, Officers Bar...Fustus on right, Tom Shaw on left. Mr. Shaw was KIA in april of 1972, in the An Khe Pass. His name is on the doors of the Miss Jo.
